Today we scheduled a flight around the Olympic peninsula with the Lindleys. The plan was to stop in Forks for the Salmon Bake Fly-in, then continue to Port Angeles for fuel and food, then back to Seattle.
The weather was a little bit low on the south side of the Olympics, but we decided to go have a look. When we passed Bremerton, the ceilings started to drop, but not too low. We continued west. The ceiling continued to drop, but we knew we could fly up the coast as long as the clouds stayed around 2,000 feet. We tuned the radio to the Forks airport common frequency and heard people flying in with clear skies, so we turned the corner and headed north.
The fly-in was nice, but Forks has a short airport. I had to do a go-around on the first attempt, but got us in on the second. The food was great, but soon it was time to continue.
At Port Angeles, we found the self-serve fuel pump and bought some gas. Then we called a taxi to take us into town for dinner. After dinner, we returned to the airport and flew back to Seattle.
