Today NASA launched Atlantis at 2:01PM. Since Andrew was in school, we didn't have time to drive to Titusville, so we picked him up a few minutes early and drove north up highway A1A. At 2:00, we pulled off the road and waited.
View Larger MapSusan was the first to see the distant orange streak rising above the dunes. She pointed and I saw it, too. I shot a few pictures, then watched in awe and it continued its eastward journey.

As I got back in the car and prepared to drive away, the low rumble of launch finally reached my ears. It sounded like a very distant thunderstorm, but the rumble continued for at least a minute before fading away.

I was wondering if you have seen it. It mst have been wsome from clos by.
It was pretty cool. We almost didn't get a chance to stop. That section of road says, "No parking on shoulder" or something similar. We found a Cafe and pulled off with seconds to spare.
