Independence Day

Looking at the calendar, Susan had a ton of stuff scheduled for us to do today. Some looked fun, but my heart was really only set on one thing - the fireworks by the river. As the day progressed, calendar items came and went - undone. Around 7:00PM, the afternoon thunderstorm was acting up, so we decided to hit the couch and watch Star Trek Season 1 on DVD from the library. By the time it was over, the weather started to clear and the sky changed from gray to bright orange. It was an amazing sight! Susan and I looked at each other and both thought the same thing - let's go!

We quickly loaded the car and were on our way. We found a place to park near the "Mt. Vero" bridge and hurried through the masses to a good spot about a third of the way across the bridge. With 10 minutes to spare, I was able to get my camera set up and ready for the action forthcoming.

When the fireworks started, I pressed the shutter release and continued shooting 6 to 8 second exposures until the end. During the show, Susan said something about the burning embers falling. From that point on, Andrew was nervous and wanted to go home. We tried to convince him that the fireworks were half a mile away and we were perfectly safe, but he wouldn't believe us.

When it was over, I had over 100 photos. The first dozen or so were really nice, sharp, and clear. But then I adjusted something and the other 90 or so came out blurry. I decided to lump them together into a collage and include them here. At the smaller size, they look pretty good. Here they are:
