While visiting our friends from Virginia near Disney World last week, I suggested to Andrew that he should try jumping into the pool. He told me that it was too scary. I suggested he start by jumping from one step to the next, then going up to the next higher step, until he was on the edge of the pool. He tried this and before too long, he was jumping in from the edge of the pool.
Fast forward to today and he's now running and leaping tall noodles in a single bound. The next step is to get him out of the life jacket and into his swim trainer. Once he's confident with that, it won't be long before he jumps in with no life support system whatsoever.

UPDATE: While I was writing this, Andrew apparently jumped into the shallow end of the pool without his life jacket!!

Andrew had a blast, and I delighted in watching him enjoy himself. :)
