Kindergarten Open House

Tonight, Osceola Magnet School held an open house for parents of children who have been accepted into the kindergarten program starting next Fall. For those who don't know, click here to read about magnet schools.

We met the Principal, Assistant Principal, the PTA president, and the five Kindergarten teachers. The Principal talked briefly about the required paperwork and the family atmosphere of the school. The Assistant Principal pointed out some other items, like the list of suggested school supplies and school uniforms. The PTA president talked about the PTA and pointed out that all families must join - for a small $5 fee - and volunteer at least 10 hours per year, plus attend three mandatory meetings.

The meeting was adjourned and families dispersed to the kindergarten classrooms and the library. We met all five teachers, the librarian, the music teacher, and the phys. ed. teacher. Andrew was very interested in all the fun stuff that he found in each classroom. One of teachers has a relative working at FlightSafety International in Lakeland, Florida. Perhaps there's an opportunity there to pursue.

After meeting everyone, we turned Andrew loose in the playground. At 7:00pm, there was announcement telling everyone to go home, but Andrew did not want to leave. I suggested that we go to Charles Park until sunset. Andrew liked that idea. :)
